Renting Equipment For Your Construction Project

Posted on: 23 June 2018

Sometimes, a construction project can require a tool or piece of equipment that is not practical to buy for a single use. And in some cases, there are alternative ways to do the job but if the equipment is available from a rental company, that might be the best option. Rental companies offer many different types of equipment rentals and if it is a commonly used item, you may have to call a couple of different businesses to get the equipment when you need it.

Locating The Equipment You Need

Renting equipment has become pretty popular and even contractors are using some equipment rental companies to get the tools or equipment they need for some jobs. Because of the number of people that have come to find renting equipment the best option, it is a good idea to call and reserve the item you need ahead of time. In many cities, there are several rental companies but if you live in an area where there is only one, you might have to wait and put your project on hold if you can't get the equipment when you need it, so planning ahead is the best option.

Transporting Equipment

If you are renting a large item like a skid steer loader or a ditching machine, you might not have a way to easily transport it. Most rental companies include a trailer to move equipment like this on but you still need a truck that can tow the trailer. If you don't have one, the company may deliver the item to you but you need to arrange that ahead of time. If they do not offer delivery and pickup of the equipment, you may have to find a friend that can tow the trailer or rent a truck to do the job. If you do have it delivered and picked up, the time frame that you have to use the equipment could be tighter because the delivery person is not going to come out and wait an hour or two as you finish the job. They are most likely on a schedule and may have other pickups to do as well.

Insuring The Renting Equipment

Most rental companies will include some insurance in the cost of the rental, so ask about it when you pick up the item. In the case of a skid steer loader, for instance, the replacement cost i is very high and if something happens, you do not want to be on the hook for a new one. If you wanted to buy the equipment, you would not have rented it in the first place so take the time to find out if it is already insured or if you need to get some insurance on it.
